Hello Andy,
Thanks for reaching out. Since your 2018 Wrangler Unlimited Sport is
leaking at the driver door under multiple conditions, this is typically
caused by the factory body-side sealing design rather than a failure of the
hardtop itself.
Wranglers are unique because they do not have traditional body-side or
internal weather stripping like most vehicles on the road today. Instead,
the door seals are forced to seal directly against painted metal surfaces
and removable roof components. As the vehicle flexes, the seals compress
unevenly, or small gaps develop over time, water can bypass the sealing
surfaces and enter around the upper door area.
On the JK platform, the driver door area is one of the most common leak
points, especially during heavy rain, car washes, or while driving in wet
conditions. In many cases, the factory door seal is doing its best to seal
against bare metal, but it simply does not provide enough protection once
water pressure or wind-driven rain increases.
The proper solution is adding additional vehicle-specific weather stripping
that creates a secondary seal between the body and door opening. This helps
compensate for the factory design limitations and prevents water from
getting past the sealing surfaces.
