Hi Brandy,
Thanks for reaching out.
What you’re describing on your 2007 JK 4-door with the Bestop Sunrider—both
front doors leaking near the windshield posts and water soaking both driver
and passenger floorboards while driving in the rain—is one of the most
common leak patterns on the JK platform.
The root cause comes down to the factory sealing design. Unlike most
vehicles on the road today, the Wrangler JK does not have a proper
body-side sealing surface. Instead, the door and top seals are trying to
compress directly against painted metal. Since painted metal is not a
consistent sealing surface, gaps develop around the A-pillars, upper door
corners, windshield posts, and roof transition areas, allowing water to
enter from both sides.
What typically happens is the water enters higher up around the posts and
upper door corners, then runs downward behind the trim and eventually onto
the floorboards, which is why your feet are getting wet while driving in
the rain.
The Bestop Sunrider setup can make those transition areas even more
sensitive because multiple sealing surfaces are meeting together around the
windshield and upper doors.
Even though the seals may appear to be in decent condition, the issue is
usually not the seals themselves—it’s the lack of a proper gasketed surface
for them to compress against.
The most effective long-term solution is adding a factory-specific Jeep
leak fix kit with body-side weatherstripping. This creates the missing
sealing surface the factory design lacks, allowing the door and top seals
to compress evenly and consistently. Once installed, it eliminates the gaps
and resolves the water intrusion issue at its source.
Below is a link to the leak fix kit that will solve your issues.
