Hi DeWayne,
Thanks for reaching out.
What you’re describing—hearing it like you’re driving with the windows
open—is a very common early sign of the same sealing issue that later shows
up as water leaks on the Gladiator.
The root cause is the factory door sealing design. Unlike most vehicles on
the road today, the Gladiator does not have a proper body-side sealing
surface. The door seals are forced to compress directly against painted
metal, which creates small air gaps around the doors and roof interface.
Even before any water intrusion happens, those gaps allow wind to pass
through at highway speeds, which is why you’re hearing that “open window”
noise.
The important thing here is you’re catching it early. At this stage, it’s
not a leak problem yet—it’s a sealing efficiency problem. But it will
typically progress over time into water intrusion if nothing is addressed.
The solution is the same whether it’s wind noise or water leaks: adding a
body-side weatherstripping seal system. This creates the missing sealing
surface the factory setup does not provide, allowing the door seals to
compress evenly and consistently. Once installed, it significantly reduces
wind noise and eliminates the pathway for future water entry.
