Hi Carey,
Thanks for reaching out. The symptoms you’re describing on your 2011 JK
4-door hardtop—wet carpet after rain and water spilling in near the top of
the door when turning—are very common on this platform.
Unlike every other vehicle on the road today that has a dedicated body-side
seal, the Wrangler does not. Because of that, the door seals are forced to
press directly against painted metal instead of a proper rubber sealing
surface. This makes it difficult to maintain a consistent seal, especially
at the upper door area where water can pool and shift.
That’s why you’ll notice it most during heavy rain or when turning—the
water that has collected along the roof and door channel can move and find
its way past that imperfect sealing surface and into the cabin.
Even though it may seem like a worn seal, the reality is the seal is doing
the best it can with the surface it’s given.
The most effective solution is to add a vehicle-specific leak fix kit that
creates the missing body-side sealing surface. Once installed, it gives the
door seal a proper, consistent surface to compress against and resolves the
water intrusion issue.
Below is a link to the leak fix kit that will solve your issues.
If you have any additional questions, please respond to this email or you
can call me directly to further discuss this matter.
Best regards,
Tony
